Alpha Epsilon Help for Rare Breed
In December Alpha Epsilon sisters collected items for Rare Breed. This is the organization in Springfield that works with homeless youth. They were in need of sleeping bags, tents, gloves, hand warmers, and pop-top foods (food that doesn’t require a can opener). |
One altruistic project that Alpha Eta does every year is ring the bells in December for the Salvation Army. We sign up with our local Salvation Army when they start asking for volunteers. Then we commit to a 2 hour session. We break that session into 30 minute time slots, and the sisters of the group sign-up for a time frame that will work well for them. This has been very successful, and our group looks forward to volunteering each December.

The sisters of the Alpha Iota chapter in Columbia collect gifts for two families from their local Voluntary Action every year. The annual >>>>
program pairs needy families with sponsors who anonymously provide them with gifts and food for the holiday. The sisters of Alpha Delta Kappa in Columbia enjoy knowing that their gifts will make someone’s holiday morning! |
<<<Alpha Epsilon enjoyed our holiday auction – all members present brought items that were auctioned off to our sisters. The money collected will go toward our altruism projects. We are also in the midst of our annual pecan sales. We are selling 30 cases of pecans from Georgia to add to our altruism projects.

Beta Nu – Clothing for Students
Beta Nu members celebrated ADK month with a service project at Pearce Hall, the site of five Wentzville School District programs, including the High School Alternative Program. The program had many clothing items that were donated for students in need, and our chapter sorted and organized the many articles of clothing and shoes. Some of our members contacted local businesses for donations, purchased hangers and other supplies, and donated items. It was a very worthwhile project, and we are hoping to donate our time there again. |
Domestic Violence Aide-Alpha Lambda
For many years one of the altruistic endeavors of the Alpha Lambda chapter is to support Rose Brooks Center, home for victims of domestic violence. Its mission is to break the cycle of violence so that individuals and families can live free of violence. It is the largest one-site comprehensive care facility in the stat of Missouri. They have a hotline that is free and confidential. |
Beta Lambda and Care to Learn
On behalf of the membership of the Beta Lambda chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa, we want you to know how much we have enjoyed supporting the Sock It to Care to Learn project. At our meeting last night, several of our members posed with their sock along with member Joyce Moll who made a large stocking into which all smaller socks are emptied at each meeting, and our altruistic chairperson Crystal Norman. Thank you for initiating the partnership between Alpha Delta Kappa and Care to Learn so that we may better serve the needs of our precious students. |
Alpha Sigma Backpack Program
One of our programs was on the weekend food backpack program for the school. After the presentation we filled the backpacks and are continuing to work with this project, filling backpacks three or four times a year. |
Beta Nu Craft Night for Altruism Beta Nu was to hold our 3rd Annual Craft Night for altruism in November. However, snowy weather caused a cancellation. It was finally successfully held in December. We also brought gifts for our Christmas Adopt a Family. |
Beta Xi Feeds VAMC Fisher House
In February Beta Xi sisters provided a home-cooked meal, and enjoyed fellowship with families, at the St. Louis VAMC Fisher House. Chapter sisters (and even some of their grandchildren!) created valentines for the families and veteran residents to express our love and appreciation. The facility’s twenty guest suites provide a "home away from home" for families of Veterans receiving care at the St. Louis VA Medical Center and families of active duty personnel who have loved ones in other area facilities. Guests are able to be near their loved ones while having a comfortable, peaceful place to find rest and support for themselves. More than a convenient and beautiful place to stay, the guests of Fisher House share common experiences, form friendships and become a unique kind of family, a Fisher House family. |
Upsilon's Little Blue Bookshelves
Upsilon has adopted several of the Little Blue Bookshelves from the United Way’s Success by 6 reading program. Each month members bring books that are taken to United Way and cleaned. One member of our chapter gets books from United Way each month and distributes them to one of the five bookshelves that our chapter sponsors. |
